17% of food wasted at consumer level: UN report

According to a research published by the United Nations, in the year 2019, an estimated 17% of available food for consumers was wasted in restaurants, homes, and retail outlets. It was also found that there were broad similarities in consumer waste in the rich and poor countries. The report has been produced jointly by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and WRAP.

Back in the old days expired and near date perfectly edable food went to homeless shelters and soup kitchens. Then idiots for various ridiculous reasons stopped it. Also if food is composted properly it doesn't go to waste.
