A magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck off the coast of New Zealand’s North Island in the early hours on Friday. The quake was felt across North Island, with residents in Christchurch and Dunedin reporting tremors. New Zealand’s National Emergency Management Agency have warned people who have felt a powerful tremor to move to higher ground immediately.

Quick! Someone lock down the whole island!!! Oh...wait.
These 6 and 7 magnitude earthquake fell like there getting more common how many more until the BIG ONE!
Makes me wonder if there's some type of megaproject humanity could build to break up titalwaves before hitting the coast... Like concrete pillars sticking out of the ocean in a staggered pattern to take some of the energy out of the wave.
Why are there no New Zealand or at least an Australian news source for this? All the links are either UK or USA based news outlets.
Auckland’s fine (a kiwi friend of mine said the earthquakes didn’t do much).
Rep. Hank Johnson is afraid NZ may tip over.
