eBay to no longer allow selling of six Dr. Seuss books

eBay will no longer sell six Dr. Seuss books due to the presence of a prevalent ’racist imagery’. This decision came after the Dr. Seuss enterprise announced that it will no longer publish six books titled - ’And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street,’ ’If I Ran the Zoo,’ ’McElligot’s Pool,’ ’On Beyond Zebra!,’ ’Scrambled Eggs Super!,’ and ’The Cat’s Quizzer.’

Dr. Suess was a political cartoonist in the 40's, when he penned many explicitly racist cartoons. Years later he looked back at them with shame, he described them as a product of the fears of the time. In his own lifetime he saw his work age poorly and he recognised that some things you just leave in the past if you want to move forward. And now a small number of books aged poorly and won't be reprinted, the majority of his bibliography remains as popular as ever. Unless the hysterical used this as an excuse to start shrieking about cancelling again.

Bradbury wrote "Fahrenheit 451" before the realization that they won't have to burn books. They'll simply de-list them and refuse to publish them.

Do conservatives actually care about cancel culture? They were the ones who invented it when they went on about "the devil in rock music." And in any case it seems like what they all call for when they worship the free market... isn't that what this is? The consumers decide what they consume...

Remember culture warriors, the right to publish a book is held by the owner, the owners of these books decided to stop publishing them. Don't object to the free market.

Ok I get Doctor Sues Enterprises not publishing these books as a business decision. Why spend money producing something in low demand compared to other more popular Doctor Sues books. I understand EBay has the right to decide what it sold in its private marketplace. It does seem like an over reaction to delist these books. Someone mentioned that Mein Kampf is still available on EBay. Just like Mein Kampf these books are a part of history so are these books as a representation of American culture 70 years ago.

Even the birthplace of Post modernists is rejecting critical race theory in the Universities as dangerous. Recently, a New York Times article quoted a French government official as saying, “There’s a battle to wage against an intellectual matrix from American universities.’’ The article went on to explain, “prominent [French] intellectuals have banded together against what they regard as contamination by the out-of-control woke leftism of American campuses and its attendant cancel culture.”
