Georgia senate passes election bill that would repeal no-excuse absentee voting

Georgia’s state senate passed a Republican-proposed election bill in a 29–20 vote that seeks to repeal no-excuse absentee voting. The legislation will now be debated in the state’s house of representatives, where it is expected to pass in the coming weeks. Georgia was a key swing state in the 2020 presidential election where many Republicans, backed by Donald Trump, claimed voter fraud took place.
