EU parliament lifts ex-Catalan leader Puigdemont’s immunity
The European parliament has voted to lift the immunity of former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont and two other Catalan separatist members of the European parliament. The trio left Spain in 2017 after a botched referendum seeking Catalonia’s secession from the country. Spain wants to try them for sedition after declaring the referendum as illegal. The referendum threw the country in deep turmoil.
