Scottish lawmakers pass controversial hate crime bill
Scottish lawmakers have passed Scotland’s controversial hate crime bill by 82–32 votes. The legislation not only cements the existing law on hate crimes but extends protection for vulnerable groups with a new offense of ’stirring up hatred.’ Despite some changes in the original bill, concerns have been raised about certain points, like the prosecution of people for remarks in their own home.
Reminder, two men have been arrested in Scotland in the last year for comparing Sturgeon to Hitler, if your response to criticism labelling you a dictator is to arrest those who criticise you, you might be guilty... this law is a disgrace it’s open to interpretation, anyone can say anything has offended them and label it hate, parliament needs to step in. I feel that hate speech should be addressed and should be shown as evil from an early age, but as far as punishment goes, I think it should be just mandatory seminars teaching against bigoted speech... I can't imagine what would happen to my grandparents stuck in their ways if it was any worst a punishment, despite how much it disgusts me they say those things.
