The family of George Floyd has reached a $27M ’wrongful death’ settlement with the Minnesota city. This is the ’largest pre-trial settlement in a civil rights wrongful death case in US history.’ Reacting this, Floyd’s brother Rodney said this is ’a necessary step for all of us to begin to get some closure.’ The settlement will be paid out of the city’s self-insurance fund and other reserves.
It's annoying that people are regarding this guy as if he is on the same level of Martin Luther king or Nelson Mandela. He just some guy that liked drugs and had beef with cops. Since his death people have done nothing but riot and give this guy status he didn't earn.
“Minneapolis” AKA the taxpayers of Minneapolis. Regardless of if you think the Floyd family should be compensated or not, we can all agree that the people who run the city lose nothing. Their citizens do. Same for federal cases. When the government screws up and owes people money, they don’t lose any money. They take that money from the taxpayer. They harm us by their acts, and then harm us by our wallets.
How did they arrive at $27 million. Folks get sent to jail, released years later when found to be innocent, and either get a pittance or nothing.
This is insane. Families profiting off George Floyd's death and taxpayers are stuck with the bill. This is really sick.
Having a criminal son paid off... I wonder if they will share some of that money with the poor business owners who lost everything in the riots? Naw, probably going to buy some bling and weaves...
Family should put that money back toward all the businesses burned down in the name of their son... But they probably won't.
It is going to be a bit awkward if no one gets convicted over his death. Though, it would not be the first time such a discrepancy that has occured, in regards to governments settling lawsuits.
In these times of financial crisis, I'm gonna convince my brother to get choke by a cop, is for the sake of the whole family.
So paying cops salaries, then paying for cops suspension with pay, then paying for the crimes of cops. Where are all the reactionaries talking about where taxes are going when cops do this kind of stuff? You guys are ok with killing people so they don’t go to jail and cost money but what about these cops?
Absolutely appalling some junkie career criminal od's and they get millions🤔.
27 million for a career criminal who stuck the gun in a woman's stomach and died of asphyxiation by all the drugs that were in his system that's what the coroner said
Chauvin will walk and probably never wear a badge again. His training was to do exactly what he did. Knee to neck. It's a proven fact that police have been trained to do that very thing. Right or wrong. It's the cities problem. Now that they paid up a settlement it should be over. But it won't because people want blood and fire and brimstone to fall on Minneapolis. As if all the burning and looting and riots will bring any meaningful reforms. Sadness all the way around. Theres no justice or peace from people who want vengeance and control.
Minneapolis tax payers set to pay. It's terrible what happened to that guy and chauvin needs to be convicted of mansaughter but what a ridiculous irresponsible number that is unfortunately unsurprising. Money is unfortunately real folks as we all agree to it's premise. So the 27 mil that's going to that family will come from where the government collects there money. The people.
The man was a piece of shit. If your gonna base of political movement around someone, how about a man who wasn't a junky, criminal who got off his tits on drugs every day and broke into old womens houses with knives to steal money.
Act blue made billions off that faux event.
"Now that we got paid we can have closure" degenerates.
$27 Million dollars minus $2 billion in riot damage. They only owe the city $1.973 billion. Will that be cash or credit?
This money shouldn’t come directly from the taxpayers fund BUT from the Police budget. Specifically overtime and bonuses
I'm not even going entertain some of these disrespectful comments I'm seeing because deep down I know if the exact same thing happened to a family member of any of you, you'd sue and happily take the same settlement, whether you admit it or not. This settlement doesn't even have anything to do with race. But enjoy that view on your mountain of superiority made from a deck of cards.
What a clown world we live in. Dude ODs on drugs then gets treated as a saint. Cops get blamed, and months and months of riots claiming systemic racism bs.
