Probe into multi-billion dollar ’clean coal’ tax credit kicked off by Congress

A multibillion-dollar subsidy for chemically treated coal meant to reduce smokestack pollution is currently being investigated by the US Congress. Evidence has reportedly emerged that power plants which were using the fuel produced more smog, instead. The result of the probe can determine whether or not lawmakers vote to renew the subsidy, which is scheduled to expire at the end of this year.
