McConnell issues a harsh warning regarding nixing the filibuster

Mitch McConnell issued a harsh warning to members of the Democratic Party amid growing pressure to nix the legislative filibuster. The senior GOP leader said ’Nobody serving in this chamber can even begin, can even begin, to imagine what a completely scorched-earth Senate would look like.’ Senator Dick Durbin had earlier said the legislative filibuster was holding the Senate ’hostage.’

Killing the filibuster and forcing through leftists policies would see more violence and that would be an appropriate reaction. The Democrats were more than happy to use the threat of a filibuster during times when the Senate was controlled by the GOP. The sudden concern that it is somehow a bad thing is openly disingenuous.

He's not wrong. The moment the senate swings red without the filibuster in some form we can say goodbye to our bodily autonomy. White will be proclaimed the official race of america, english will be proclaimed it's official language, homosexuality and transgender will be punishable by death by lynch mob, and we will no longer have a free country as our laws will be made subordinate to prosperity gospel evangelicals and corporations. And the earth will truly scorch and die as fossil fuels ramp up their production, and we all choke on the fumes of the mighty demon mammon that republicans worship.

Do it. It was not around when the government was first formed, and we don’t need it now. It would force both parties to get their shit together, because then there would be consequences for not serving the voters.

Any constitutioalnal originalist should aggressively oppose the filibuster. Prove otherwise. Also if it remains it should be changed to a talking filibuster, the current filibuster is not even the same procedure as it was originally intended. It was originally used to filibuster ending slavery and civil rights protections. There is absolutely no reason for it. Period.
