Turkey withdraws from international accord for protecting women’s right
Shockwaves have been sent throughout Turkey after the country was withdrawn from an international treaty to protect women by Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This was done via a presidential decree issued in the early hours of Saturday. Turkey has been reeling from a range of high-profile cases of domestic violence and femicides. Therefore, such a step has not gone down with the people.
Protecting women is code word for making them a privileged class. On the off chance that this really does encourage equality under the law, this is a bad move.
I read one article saying that people in Turkey are upset about this accord being expanded to include protections based on sexual orientation. If that is the case then this makes more sense.

Ataturk would have strangled him with his own two hands had he been alive to see what this ingrate is doing now with Turkey. God help the Turks.
