Japan bans fans from outside the country from attending Tokyo Olympics

Spectators from abroad will not be allowed to see the Tokyo Olympics in person according to a decision taken during a meeting between the International Olympic Committee, the Japanese Government, local organizers, the International Paralympic Committee, and the Tokyo government. The decision was taken due to the risks involved while holding such a big event during a global pandemic.

This is amazing news. There has been an increasing amount of censorship and repression going on recently due to the expected presence of foreigners. Hopefully now it will stop.

I have mixed feelings. I feel terrible because japan went all out on this event expecting to make back and then some. But on top of that, I would hate for japan to become a new target for any kind of cultural or political scrutiny.
