South China Sea: Chinese ’fishing fleet’ at disputed reef alarms Philippines

The Philippines defense chief has demanded China withdraw more than 200 ’fishing vessels’ encroaching upon their territorial waters in the South China Sea. Delfin Lorenzana claimed that the vessels are crewed by a maritime militia. A government watchdog said the vessels were seen moored at Whitsun Reef, which is well within the country’s exclusive economic zone but is claimed by Beijing also.
