Katherine Diaz, Olympic surfing hopeful, dies due to lightning strike

According to officials, Katherine Diaz, died after being struck by lightning last week. The 22-year old was preparing to surf in the Olympics and died while training on water. According to the surfing federation of the company, FESASURF, Diaz was training off El Tunco beach in her native El Salvador. She had just finished giving a friend a hug before going out to practice according to her uncle.
