Bill to stop Sacklers from using bankruptcy ’loophole’ to evade liability

Democrats are seeking to prevent members of the Sackler family, owners of Purdue Pharma, from using the company’s bankruptcy to get legal releases freeing them from lawsuits over the opioid painkiller. The proposal comes after the Sacklers offered to pay $4.28B over the next decade in exchange for legal releases that would resolve lawsuits accusing Purdue of helping fuel the opioid epidemic.

GUT THEM. Get their money and lock them up. They indirectly killed and disabled millions.

That is crazy that members of the Sackler family could get immunity if their bankruptcy goes through.

Well, since companies are people now, they are the ones bankrupt. The family isn't the company. They are different people. So the condition of the company should have no bearing on the ones who "owned" the company. Oh yeah, what do we call it now? You can't own a person, that's slavery. So nobody should be allowed to own a company.

Your government doesn’t want $4,000,000,000, they want it all!! The greed of the government on full display people, and you cheer them on. Remember what you’ve done here the next time you reach for your prescription.

I'm no fan of these people, but this is like suing Jack Daniel's for alcohol related deaths and addiction. You took a legal product and chose to abuse it.

4 billion is laughable when they literally make like 10 times that amount every year and have been doing so for DECADES.

That loophole was created with the 'get out of jail free' monopoly card in mind, then. Got new gameplan or gameplay !?

This stuff is basically legal heroin. I've had friends either die or are currently suffering the after effects from opioid usage. Anyone who's ever used a pain killer after an injury or surgery can attest to how quickly you need more to even feel the effects of the drug. I'll never understand why so many people are against cannabis and want it to stay legal, but overlook or don't care about opioids. Only now people getting angry.....decades too late.

Not to take sacklers back. And I haven't done the research, but is there any single truly effective pain medication for real pain, (not my back hurts but I can still work pain but I'm paralyzed in bed pain) that is not terribly addictive?

Another funny thing is, they still prosciribing opioids. They literally arent gonna change anything and sense they got sued you cant do it again. They get a slap on the wrist while there is countless people in prison for illegal use or distribution of said narcotic.
