Bangladesh court hands death sentence to 14 Islamists for plotting to kill PM
A special court in Dhaka sentenced 14 members of Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami – a banned jihadist outfit – to death for plotting to assassinate Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over 20 years ago. In the case, a bomb weighing 76 kilograms was recovered from the venue for rally in the Gopalganj district where Hasina was scheduled to address. The defendants said they would appeal the verdict.
