Merkel defends EU’s decision to procure Covid-19 vaccines jointly

With the European Union struggling to roll out Covid-19 vaccines timely, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has defended the 27-nation bloc’s decision to procure the vaccines jointly. Speaking to her country’s parliamentarians ahead of a virtual summit of EU leaders, Merkel said if some member nations had vaccine supplies and other had not, it would have shaken the EU’s internal market to its core.
