Canada supreme court rules federal carbon tax is constitutional

The Supreme Court of Canada ruled Thursday that the federal government’s national carbon price is entirely constitutional, overriding opposition from 3 provinces who had called the act an infringement on their jurisdiction. Under the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act, the central government can impose a federal levy on provinces that do not have an adequate carbon pricing system of their own.
