111 people died during Texas winter storm, officials confirm

The death toll from the deadly winter storm that severely affected Texas’ power and water systems killed 111 people, as per numbers released by the Texas Department of State Health Services. This figure is almost twice the earlier estimates of at least 57 fatalities as investigators confirmed the cause of more deaths. Millions were left battling extremely cold weather, which raised the death toll.

Wow. That is quite a shame. I have relatives who live in texas, and I know firsthand they're not prepared the weather like that. On a side note I did notice that a lot of buildings were damaged by flooding after the pipes thawed. Living in the Northern parts of the US, if my pipes froze one of the first things I would do would be to shut off the main water valve in the basement. But I guess if you've never experienced freezing temperatures like that, that would not be the first thing that came to mind. It was really an unfortunate situation all around.
