Boulder suspect reportedly passed a state background check before buying gun

A gun store owner from suburban Denver claimed that the shooting suspect from the Boulder massacre which left 10 people, including a police officer dead, passed a state background check before buying the gun. The suspect, 21-year-old Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, of Arvada, Colorado, suffered a leg wound following the incident, and was consequently taken into custody.

Sure I'll bite here. So both articles mention that this individual passed the mandatory background which at least implies that he was within his legal rights to own the weapon. So could we prevent this? Even if this weapon wasn't available to him (aka if it was banned), what would have stopped him from purchasing two handguns and still carrying out these horrible murders? I think there is too much concentration on the tool used, and way too much notoriety gained for these murderers.

Family knew of his struggles knew he had a gun. Should have used the red flag provision since the state was so adamant on having yet another gun control policy that clearly didn’t work
