Georgia state lawmaker arrested after protesting voting restriction bill

Georgia state Rep. Park Cannon was arrested and removed from the Georgia Capitol after passage of the state’s sweeping elections bill restricting voting access. In a statement, Georgia State Patrol said that Cannon ’was beating on the door to the Governor’s Office,’ and, refused to stop doing so despite being warned. Earlier, Kemp signed a sweeping elections bill into law.

This is a step in the right direction. We know that the mail in system was fraught with errors. We need to implement a ID requirement as well and make it nationwide. We want to hear the voices of the ALL American citizens and ONLY american citizen and only once. Not too complicated. Why don't the Dems want legitimate elections? Why don't they want to ensure that they are legal and without major fraud? Thank God some politicians take it seriously before the government collapses and the people revoke their power to rule.

“The law signed by Kemp on Thursday includes new limitations on mail-in voting, expands most voters' access to in-person early voting and caps a months-long battle over voting in a battleground state.” “It has been heavily criticized as a bill that would end up disenfranchising Black voters. It's also seen as Republicans' rebuke of the November and January elections in which the state's Black voters led the election of two Democrats to the senate.” Gotta give credit to Republicans, anytime democracy threatens their claim to power they subvert it. Great job!

I'm a little confused on what she attempting to accomplish. From another article that I read it looks as if both the house and senate approved the bill and the governor signed it. Not commenting on the merit of the bill just the process. If thats the case then she already voted on the matter, what was she looking to achieve?

I would believe the modern GOP isn't entirely riddled with abject moral cowards if they would put forward a bill, just one, that made voting more accessible instead of less. Its right that the government should be at least a little afraid of the people, but the GOP take it too far.

Republicans clearly admitting they can't win if more people vote. Republicans, it's time to become independent or libertarian.

Not nearly strict enough 1 vote 1 Id 1 thumb 1 finger print and any illegal that votes gets 20 years in prison, any person voting for a dead person 20 years caught voting twice 30 years. With deterrents like this will be the only safe and secure elections.

Simple fact. Republicans want to restrict how many vote because as several said loudly "The more people that vote the more likely Republicans lose". Independents usually either vote third party or Democrat (I've always voted third party) because the Republican party has been a farce since Nixon and there's more Democrats than Republicans.

Just like the usual republicans at it again trying to silence ppls voices and votes. They want to win so badly they will make ppl not want to vote.

Do you want voter IDs? Make it compulsory and free for all voters to get an ID. Send it to them automatically, keep it up to date But what Georgia Republicans are doing is different... they are exploiting the differences in the electorate and introducing measure to suppress voting for democrats... Cause they know they are a minority party....

Honestly. How many eligible us citizens does not have an ID that could be used during an election. Seriously? I mean don't you need an ID for a lot of other important things in life? Like signing certain contracts, driving, getting loans and bank accounts? Wouldn't most eligible voters already have the required identification? If that's the case: Why is an ID requirement when voting an issue?

Well this bill is rather ridiculous. It's obvious and had been for the longest time that republicans want voter suppression nation wide. Sure they claim it's to make elections more "secure" but most of us who have a brain know that's just bull and a front for their agenda.

We all know how serious the Democrats are when it comes to someone interfering with official state business at the capital. All those capital “insurrectionists” are going away for a long time so I guess we better start looking for Cannon’s replacement right now. Oh, wait....Democrat, never mind.
