A California judge decided not to impose a prison sentence on two boys whose attack led to the death of a 13-year-old classmate in 2019. The duo had picked on the victim for years. The two admitted to involuntary manslaughter after having their charges reduced. The attack, caught on video, showed the two throw punches on Diego Stolz before he fell and cracked his head on concrete.
When a society abandons an objective standard of morality (such as, gasp, the Bible) for the quicksand of relativism, no one is held accountable for their actions; instead, the individual was “inadequately socialized” or needs to be cured of a mental “illness.”
If this had occurred as a one off incident of horsing around that went wrong (the victim fell and struck his head on concrete), then perhaps the sentence approach could be understood. That wasn't the case. The two perpetrators had bullied this poor kid for years. All the "judge" did was empower their behaviour for the future. I'll bet they both end up in jail at some point in the future.
@ Noah, I read that same decision and couldn't help but drawing a similar conclusion. I also read that this victims parents notified the school days in advance that this bullying was happening and the school stated they would suspend the two attackers. Yet they were at the school obviously. The parents are now suing the school. Regardless it almost feels like the parents of the victim was failed at every level, this should be unacceptable and I believe a level of outrage is more than credited here.
Welcome to the new California, where violent criminals are being punished less harshly across the state. Check out the Los Angeles DA, George Gascón, and the policy changes he's implemented in recent years.
Real justice is a dying concept in this country, and it's only getting worse.
California killing itself 1 at a time
Probably because the students involved weren’t white? Else it’s a hate crime, no?
WT. F? WT. F? WT. F? WT. F?
This judge needs to be removed from the bench .
The system didn't do anything about the bullying and it escalated to the death of this child. We have become a society of spineless people. Where one videos instead of stopping crime.
"At their sentencing, the judge said psychological reports described the boys as lacking empathy and said they blamed the victim for the attack" They're sociopaths. Now that they have gotten away with murder, they will continue this behavior the rest of their lives.
