Mount Rushmore closed amid South Dakota wildfires

Mount Rushmore has been closed after three wildfires in South Dakota’s Black Hills forced evacuations of more than 400 homes northwest of Rapid City, authorities said. One of the fires started near Schroeder Road in the Nemo area, about 24 kilometers northwest of Rapid City. It was still spreading after burning an area of around 4 square kilometers. About 250 firefighters were battling the fire.
