Biden plans to connect every American to broadband in next 8 years

President Joe Biden is set to announce a sweeping $2 trillion infrastructure plan, which will include a $100 billion budget to connect every American to high-speed internet over the next eight years. Biden is scheduled to announce the ’American Jobs Plan’ on Wednesday. The $100 billion earmarked for broadband expansion is bigger than previous efforts to connect every US household to the internet.

Once again, government well behind the curve. Google tried expanding fios, governments across the country blocked it directly or indirectly (massive fees for access rights). Now Musk is creating affordable satellite internet that shows promise and honestly will be the only option for remote areas of the country. I wonder what govt will do to kill this dream? Meanwhile, the inept government will likely spend billions of dollars to string T1 lines everywhere and pat themselves on the back all while getting massive kick backs and charging fees for all the upkeep. The corruption of government cannot be over exaggerated.

Wasn't this the plan under Obama? What happened? Why wasn't it done then? Joe was VP, wasn't he? Does he even remember that he was VP?

You do realize Elon musk is already in the process of doing this for the entire WORLD. So I take it Mr Biden is gonna rub shoulders with elon and say that he did it all on his own.

I like the Stated goal but I'm worried about the execution of the plan. America's a big country, and the telecommunication companies practicly have trust in place.

There's a fed plan that has been on existence for years, it called RUS. Notoriously hard to get funding though. Why not just ease those restrictions?

Helping all Americans get basic access to the internet is important. Maybe work that into the infrastructure bill.

They have been promising this and paying for this since Jimmy Carter was president. At this point it's just an excuse to spend money and get votes.

So instead of letting the people who are already doing this (amazon/Elon musk) we gotta throw massive tax dollars at it? Is the national debt not climbing fast enough already?

A similar plan was made in an island many years ago. Fell off the wagon. Now its go back on in the US of A. Should be OK at least.
