Christine Schraner Burgener, UN envoy on Myanmar, has warned of a civil war and an imminent ’bloodbath’ in the country and urged the security council to take action in the crisis. This follows the military’s brutal crackdown on peaceful protesters after it toppled the elected civilian government. In a closed-door meeting, Burgener told the council ’to take collective action and do what is right.’
