Biden to check if he has executive authority to cancel student loan
The White House said President Joe Biden has asked Education Secretary Miguel Cardona to prepare a memo on his legal authority to cancel student debt. Ron Klain, chief of Biden’s staff, told Politico that Cardona will prepare a memo on this issue. This comes amid a rising pressure on the president to address the issue of student loan that is affecting millions of Americans.
He's not going to do anything. He's "checking if he has authority" so he can use somebody else as the scapegoat for why he's not doing anything, just like the senate parliamentarian & the $15 minimum wage. By the end of his term he'll be saying something along the lines of "I really wanted to do something about climate change, but the whitehouse janitor said I shouldn't so my hands are clearly tied."

So, the best way to solve the ever inflating cost of student debt is to subsidize it even further? It doesn’t sound like a good idea. This is one of the issues I’m most torn on right now because it seems that both sides have horrid solutions to the problem. I believe that government subsidization has assisted in college prices rising faster than inflation... so direct interference from government has already worsened the situation, but I also agree that something needs to be done. Unfortunately I don’t know exactly what could be done without involving the government.

The best way to eliminate student loans are to pay them off. Just saying.
If the policy makes education more affordable and the graduates can start working and be productive without any baggage or burden, why isn’t it a good thing?
Just to point out how much this is all for show, the Education Secretary has no input to give on whether or not the Prez can EO debt forgiveness, even if it is to pay for schooling. If the debt was to the US government, then maybe, but he should be asking his Constitutional Lawyers about it. Since the debt isn't to the US, it would have to be paid off, which is Congress.
They signed for the loan, it must be reaid. However I think the interest should be canceled.

How are we paying for this cancelled debt? Even if Biden just cancels $10,000 per person, that's still a lot of money as it adds up fast.
