Students forced to be mock jurors for Derek Chauvin trial in school project

Parents of students at a Texas high school are outraged after a teacher subjected their children to a livestream of the Derek Chauvin murder trial as part of an assignment. The teacher at Cedar Hill High School required freshman students to serve as mock jurors in the trial that has included graphic images and video of the police encounter. The parents said this was done without their consent.

It's a perfectly fine exercise for the classroom, but using such a politicized case is a really bad idea.

I don't mind the lesson. However, the teacher needed to inform the parents that such a lesson is being taught regardless of the intent. It would have been wiser if they had done so; and not bring unnecessary heat onto their school district.
