Vote tilts against Amazon union organizers in Alabama

Vote tilts against Amazon union organizers in Alabama

With nearly half the ballots counted Thursday, 1,100 warehouse workers at Amazon had rejected the union while 463 voted in favor of it. The count will resume Friday morning in Birmingham, Alabama. The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, which is organizing the Amazon workers in Bessemer, said that 3,215 votes were sent in.

This has been priceless to watch, for me. Amazon may treat their employees roughly, but most of their employees seem to think they get paid enough for what they do. At least, enough to prefer dealing directly with the company.

Unions played a large and important positive role in our nation and abroad. But their importance is waning. With information more readily available and accessible, individuals can better make their own decisions.

Unions are tråsh. anyone who has worked in our with a union can confirm this. great idea in theory, but utterly corrupted in practice.

Good on them to fight for the corporations. Good on them for staying in their shitty conditions. I guess the republican brainwashing of tickle down economics works great in my state.

This is a tuff one for me. As a union Steward and on the bargain committee my self ( which will probably shock everyone on here) in the right situation unions are great while the teachers union is atrocious. The workers at each place know what's best for them. 2005 I voted against a union because the Company treated us great only lazy bad workers voted for it. Next job the company started taking everything away treating the workers like sh!t even the great hardworking never call out always on time. So this time I voted for the union and it's worked out great.

A vote against unionization is a vote for the workers. The title itself is spin. Edit: The original headline used was the techcrunch headline.

1) Amazon driver down wages 2) Amazon violated multiple rules during the voting. More than likely another vote will be held. If amazon is willing to spend this much money to prevent a union from forming just think how much this union will materially improve the workers lives.

Yeah that result makes sense. At least in the private sector Unions became a victim of their own success.

Unions are parasites clinging to those that they call members. Good on em for recognizing and voting accordingly.

Got a feeling Jeff Bezos and President Trump are soon going to be telling a similar story. How long does it take to count the votes at one facility? Hummm.

Nothing suspicious about intersection traffic light timing change or short-lived USPS mailbox installation/removal...

Probably the most fair and secure union vote ever 😁.

I am union. You are all fools to believe you will do better on your own and that companies will fairly pay. Ha!!

The union should take a page from Trump. What about all the votes from dead people that don’t even work there. This vote was stolen from the union! Mass union voter fraud. How can there be more votes than workers!! #overturn

All fools. They will regret this.

All I need to do is look at the glorious USPS to see that unions in our modern day are worthless and do nothing to help efficiency and production... only giving money to the least productive but most incompetent workers

It's wild to think that around the entire world the only country that amazon doesn't have union shops is in the USA.

What if there was no actual vote, and Amazon used this as a means to identify which ones to fire.
