US suicides dropped last year amid coronavirus pandemic
According to preliminary data from the CDC, suicides in the US fell by nearly 6% last year despite concerns that the pandemic could lead to an increase. Data showed that suicides last year dropped below 45,000. The percentage decline of national suicides is the largest in at least four decades. Suicides have risen steadily from the early 2000s, peaking in 2018 at the highest level since 1941.
Probably because for 6 months every death in the usa was considered a Corona virus kill despite any other circumstances
Weren't there multiple studies saying the opposite? Hell, if I remeber, one of the stories I saw on here was how the lockdowns had drastically increased suicides in Japan. Maybe it's different in other places, but this doesn't seem to make sense to me. Social isolation doesn't tend to improve mental health. Neither does fear from doomsday talk and stress from losing your job because the government shut everything down.

How is it that none of these articles have a direct link to this study they are referencing? It should be a requirement as part of proper sourcing procedures.
This would be more credible if the CDC didn't just claim that Racism is a public health emergency.
They were added to the covid deaths.
They went down because if you put a death in the Covid column, you can’t put it in the suicide column. Or heart failure, or flu , or respiratory failure, or drug overdose, or...
This makes a slight amount of sense given that the trend was downward prior to the pandemic and for several months in the beginning months of the pandemic there was a trend of "togetherness" to get through the pandemic that quickly wanes and gave way to an accelerated rate of suicides. Also death certificates are still outstanding and the numbers could go higher. The pandemic itself and especially the lockdowns were attributed to increases in suicide rates, domestic abuse, and child abuse the world over and those trends can be expected to continue with prolonged covid restrictions.
Because they too were listed as COVID19 deaths. Like the one man who shot himself after discovering he tested Positive for COVID19, and his death certificate listed cause of death as the virus and not the BULLET

The numbers we see in this story could be due to a lag in reporting, one of the articles posted in the comments notes a two year lag in suicide reporting.
