Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, dies aged 99

The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, has died aged 99. Philip spent 73 years married to Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving consort of any British monarch, retiring from his public role in 2017. A statement from Buckingham Palace said: ’It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.’

Last of a generation. He had his gaffs for sure but he was a loyal and stoic companion to the Queen who I'm sure will be devastated by his passing. Considering how his kids were, I'm sure, a constant disappointment he has done well to say nothing in public.

Just a correction, they were married for 73 years. Not 65. They were married on November 20th, 1947.

A loss indeed. Who is going to congratulate backpackers in Papua New Guinea when they avoid being eaten by the locals? Who will advise our young not to stay in Hong Kong for too long to avoid acquiring slitty eyes? How will we ever learn how the natives in Scotland remain sober long enough to pass the driving test? He will be missed.
