St Vincent volcano: Around 16,000 flee communities after eruption

About 16,000 people have had to flee their ash-covered communities after the La Soufrière volcano, situated on the Caribbean island of St Vincent, erupted on Friday. It was the 4,000-ft volcano’s first major eruption since 1979. Experts have warned of further eruptions in the coming days as smaller eruptions continued over the weekend, causing power cuts and disrupting water supplies.
