Study: Link between gum disease and dementia

According to a new research, older adults with more harmful bacteria in their gums are more likely to have evidence for amyloid beta, a key biomarker for Alzheimer’s, in their cerebrospinal fluid. Prior studies have found that bacteria-causing gingivitis can metastasize from the mouth to the brain. The next step is establishing trials to determine if deep-cleaning teeth can stave off Alzheimer’s.

Not really a “new” link. I recall seeing research on this years ago. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28598507/ Here’s one from 2017, for instance.

Now this would be quite the breakthrough. Going to follow this study to see what they find.
