French town’s Facebook page shut down over ’offensive’ name

Facebook accidentally took down the official page of the French town of Bitche, citing alleged offensive language. The small town lies in the region of Moselle. Authorities raised the matter with Facebook, and are awaiting a reply. They have since created a new page named after the town’s postcode, ’Mairie 57230.’ A nearby town of Rohrbach-lès-Bitche has renamed its page to avoid being removed.

Boy, it sure is a good thing we have Facebook around to protect the entire planet from offensive words, We should be so grateful for their hard work and dedication, Heil Facebook!

If the town self-identifies as Bitche, who is FaceBook to question it?

People are offended by their shadows these days. How stupid you have to be to sit behind a keyboard and rage over silly stuff?

Facebook is really idiotic in its 'community standards', which are standards not of the international community but only of their community of euphemistically named 'fact-checkers', aka censors. I posted memes AGAINST Goebbels' propaganda, AGAINST Hitler and AGAINST Nazi book-burning, but because included photos of the same, Facebook looked at the photos, ignored the text, took down the memes. This is functional illiteracy.

Facebook continues to be intolerant and oppressive of other cultures it blindly refuses to understand. This blatant racism must not be tolerated! Yet another impoverished small community crushed under the heel of BIG TECH!

They should have used Google maps before temporarily banning the town's name. SMH

All they had to do was tell Facebook of the mistake and it was restored. Bots need to be retrained lol
