Egypt frees 2 journalists held in detention for 17 months

Egyptian authorities released two freelance journalists – Solafa Magdy and her husband Hossam el-Sayyad – after keeping them in detention for 17 months. They were accused of spreading fake news, misusing social media platforms and joining a banned group. Before her arrest, Magdy had lashed out against the government for the arrest of rights activist Esraa Abdel Fattah, who is still in detention.

The journalists supposedly "disseminated false news, misused social media platforms and joined an outlawed group, said lawyer Khaled Ali." Remember about a week ago when AOC sent the California Highway patrol to that guy's house because he wanted her to take a hardliners stance on an issue? We are only two or three steps removed from having dissent on Twitter become punishable by jail time.
