Senate advances bill to combat surge of anti-Asian hate crimes

The Senate voted 92-6 to advance a bill Wednesday that would address the surge of hate crimes against Asian Americans. The bill would assign a DOJ official to expedite reviews of potential Covid-19 related hate crimes and establish an online database. It also would task the department with coordinating with local law enforcement groups to raise awareness about hate-crime reporting.

Here's an idea. How about we actually punish the crime and the criminal rather than trying to add on punishments for their reasons. If I'm assaulted, I really couldn't care what your reasons are. It doesn't matter to me if you hate me for the color of my skin or my gender or for what clothes I am wearing. I just think you deserve to be punished. It really doesn't matter if you hate me or just want to hurt someone.

Has there been a increase is Asian hate crimes, or have we just shifted our attention toward it?

Asain hate, black hate, white hate,etc..list goes on..why not just people hate? Everybody wants to be included and scream about how unfair life is for their race, but refuse to stop identifying as such. Why not just be human? If we spent as much time trying to work together as we do in separating ourselves from one another, we might find we have bigger issues facing us all.

What evidence do they have that these crimes are related to CoVID-19 beyond the general knowledge that Lock-Downs have made people go crazy? Black-on-Asian violence was occurring long before CoVID and how do you explain all the Black-on-Jewish attacks?

Hate crimes against Asian Americans is wrong regardless of who perpetrated it. The fact is that an irresponsible politician has stoked anti Chinese sentiment in the US for political gain. And despite what he says he is not a stable genius, but an opportunistic S.O.B.
