Australian man gets venomous snake in lettuce packet

Alex White from Sydney, Australia found a snake in a plastic-packed lettuce he bought from a supermarket. At first, he thought it was a worm until the writhing reptile flicked its tongue. It turned out to be a juvenile venomous pale-headed snake, which goes by the scientific name Hoplocephalus bitorquatus. Australian Museum says they are a ’shy but nervous species, easily agitated if cornered.’
