What a nothing story. Maybe the government will save on hosting costs.

1. SSL certs expiring don't make the websites unreachable, it just makes them labeled as "suspicious". 2. It isn't really that difficult to automate the certificate renewal process... or to realize that they will expire during a possible looming shutdown, and renew them early. 3. LetsEncrypt.org offers (industry backed) SSL certs for free, so you can't even use budgetary excuses for the expiration.
