Trump’s deal after 29 days old government shutdown rejected

President Trump offered Democrats a deal to end the 29-day-old government shutdown in return for $5.7 billion in border wall funding. Top Democrats quickly rejected the offer, saying the president must agree to reopen the government before they’ll negotiate on immigration or border security.

@Gramps pity the Dems wont go for it at all. Out of spite they will say no when they could look like the bigger person by saying yes, thus hurting chances of multiple wins and looking good by opening gov. Petty on both sides, but Dems should look worse cos Reps offered something at least

This seems like a fantastic plan. He explained how he wants to allocate the funds, that he want to help out the DACA people, help for people with visas and a plan to keep working at this until its fixed. The Dems have no reason to say no at this point. If they do, it will make them look very bad.

Sounds exceedingly fair.

can someone explain how trump is racists? when he is making a deal that involves minority. A racist person would have never put that into. deal agreement. Also I think its time for democarts to withdraw from the beaches of Puerto Rico and negotiate.

If the Dems keep digging in, they will lose EVERYTHING in 2020. He knows what he's doing. Watch the documentary on him. He's good at these exact shenanigans, whether you agree with him or not. He's controlling the conversation.

Trump is a business man, he wants to negotiate a deal. But the dems just refuse to even come to the table. So he is having to negotiate with himself *for* them. *They* should be the ones negotiating for DACA and other reforms in return for the relatively small investment for his wall. If the wall won't work, as they claim, then they get what they want *and* say "I told you so" if it doesn't work. They are just being petulant at this point.

Am I missing something? Did Trump already hold his talk and give his proposal? Or did Pelosi just shoot it down before ever hearing/reading it?

trump should've thrown in all expense paid travel for politicians and their extended families during future shutdowns

So technically speaking, the BRIDGE Act is only extending DACA status for three years. Amnesty would be giving DACA recipients U.S. citizenship without requiring them to apply the legal way. Nothing in Trump's compromise proposal is going to undermine his immigration agenda; he is not stupid, even if he comes off as such.

This is a great deal for the Dems - if they DONT take it, its proof positive that they are anti-American and anti-democracy. The fact that Pres. Trump hasnt declared a national emergency DESPITE his legal right to do so, shows just how much he WANTS to do this bipartisanly.

Keep your #EyeOnTheBall. This is a con job. He's caused every problem that he says he'll fix. Just stop the shutdown and open the government, THEN work on a full, complete immigration and border security package. This president is trying to pretend that he is giving something new. He caused this problem in the first place. Trump came into office like a feudal lord and blew up DACA, TSP, and other immigrant protections that previous American presidents established because the #LeftoverGOP refused to develop reasonable immigration processes. Don't forget that a wall keeps people in as easily as it keeps people out. The right to travel is a common law right. This right continues to be purposely destroyed since the turn of the century. #EyesOnThePrize

People are commenting on the "deal," but really these are items up for negotiations. Nancy Pelosi refuses to negotiate for funding for the wall, and others don't like a 3 year legal, not Presidential mandate, to protect "Dreamers." Bottom line it isn't a deal, it a proposal to be bargained on.

Trump willing to deal anything for a wall. Democrats willing to lose anything to keep it away.
