Italy’s Salvini says France has no interest in stabilizing Libya

Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said on Tuesday that France did not want to bring calm to Libya because its energy interests there clashed with those of Italy. This comes a day after France summoned Italy’s ambassador after Salvini’s fellow deputy prime minister, Luigi Di Maio, accused Paris of creating poverty in Africa.

He's probably not far off. France was one of Iraq's largest creditors under Hussein. They were more than willing to fund genocide so long as the oil flowed.
