No-deal Brexit would mean hard Irish border, EU confirms

The European Commission said on Tuesday that British-ruled Northern Ireland will automatically have a ’hard border’ with its southern neighbor if Britain leaves the EU without a withdrawal agreement. Accordingly, Ireland, like other member states, would have to enforce EU customs and other checks on imports from Britain after Brexit in the absence of a special deal.

That's Ireland's problem, not the UK's. If Ireland wants free trade and travel on the island, maybe they leave the EU too.

Good reason for Ireland to leave. They didn't want to be ruled by the UK why should they be ruled by the EU? Make decisions for your own country. You fought hard for sovereignty and independence just to sign it away to a different tyranny.

It can be worked out later, but even if left as a hard border it is still better than any deal I have seen so far! Only No Deal gets the UK its sovereignty back!

"EU confirms" 😂 The whole point is that they no longer have any say in our affairs. We simply work it out, without their involvement.

The EU wants to be subject to Irish terrorism? Ok....

UK call their bluff. Ireland says they won't except a hard border on the island. So just leave. The border issue is as or more important for Ireland. If the EU forces it as part of a no deal Brexit they can fight it out with Ireland. A good deal of Ireland's trade is with the UK so it will hurt them and therefore the EU more.

Isn't that border governed by a treaty between the UK and Ireland? The EU would have to tread on Ireland's sovereignty to enforce such a border.

Time for North Ireland to reunify, and a hard Brexit to happen. If Scotland wants to leave Britain, let them do it too. English can keep the monarchy to themselves.

The Brittish should just get the hell out of Ireland, Scottland and Wales, don't drag them down because you are stupid.
