Iran arrested 7,000 dissidents in 2018, says Amnesty

Amnesty International says Iran arrested 7,000 people in 2018 in an apparent crackdown on dissent. Calling it a ’shameless campaign of repression’, Amnesty said those arrested included protesters, students, lawyers, journalists, environmental and women’s rights activists, and trade unionists. Five activists were charged with ’corruption on earth’, a capital offence.
