Brazil’s first openly gay congressman quits seat due to threats

Jean Wyllys, Brazil’s first openly gay congressman, said on Thursday he will not serve the new term due to death threats. However, Wyllys’ party said the seat in Brasilia will go to a substitute lawmaker who is also gay, councilman David Miranda. Wyllys said death threats made his life unbearable. He also confirmed he will not return to Brazil from his current travels in Europe.
