US slaps sanctions on state oil firm piling pressure on Maduro

The Trump administration on Monday sanctioned Venezuela’s state-owned oil company in a step aimed at ratcheting up pressure on President Maduro to cede power. The sanction means Maduro’s government would lose access to one of its most important sources of income and foreign currency. Maduro went on state TV later and called the US action ’immoral, criminal’.
