House Democrats propose to have ’so help me God’ removed from oath

A key committee in the House of Representatives is moving to eliminate the God reference from the oath administered to witnesses testifying before the panel. The House Committee on Natural Resources is seeking to have the words ’so help you God’ removed from the oath. Some Republican leaders were quoted reacting with dismay, suggesting it was a sign of the Democratic Party’s leftward shift.

Our constitution and rights ultimately come from God not a man or any government. Gods authority and judgment is unchanging, that is why that completely solid foundation is key to American law ,authority and human dignity.

I mean, just do like the military does. During the oath of enlistment they let you decide whether you say the "so help me God" part, or say you're saying it for the God of the Airman/Marine/Sailor/Solier's God next to you. You don't have to write it out completely.

as an atheist this is LONG over due. legislating by a Christian god is literally Christian Sharia law.

Because that totally fucking matters, right? This is like watching a bad episode of Family Guy. Brian is every Democrat ever. "But da Constitution says God, and God is a bayud wurd." It's fucking irrelevant, and we're actually paying people ridiculous amounts of money to sit there and make dipshit useless decisions like this. Ugh.

As a far right bigot fascist as the democrats would call me, I do agree with them on this one, it's to pedantic for some catholic people to think that only them as religious people can have values.

In other news, Satan is preparing to add Dems to his list of the future damned. No word on whether Hell will be annexing Florida or just waiting for the Russians.

im very religious but government should be secular. specially since most of the god stuff was added in the 1950s and the government isn't pure enough to use the term "god" in nost cases.

There are tons of other things that democrats could be focusing on. I don't think that we have to remove it due to how we as a country were founded but I think that we could have an alternative for people who don't want to say that. But just, why now?

As an atheist I could care less about this because we have bigger issues to worry about, like getting the damn wall built.
