McConnell calls efforts to make Election Day a federal holiday a ’power grab’

Senate leader Mitch McConnell called efforts by House Democrats to make Election Day a federal holiday a ’power grab’ by Democrats. McConnell was criticizing H.R. 1, the bill focussing on voting, campaign finance and ethics reform. McConnell’s comments received backlash from Democrats, who condemned him for opposing to a bill aimed at allowing greater access to the polls.

actually, I wouldn't mind that. Wouldn't change my voting habits, I just send in my early ballot, but I'd love another day off.

Here is an attempt at piecing together what this new legislation is going to do. 1. To make Election Day a federal holiday so that people can easily go and vote without the burden of work discourage them from voting 2. Eliminate voting barriers by allowing automatic voter registration 3. Reinstate voting rights to felons who fully served their time 4. Federal workers are given a 6 day off in order to prepare the infrastructure needed for the election 5. None of the articles here presented this, but the legislation will also require all super PACs to publicize their donors as a form of transparency. Source: So not only is Mitch saying no to a legislation that would also make it easier for Republicans and Republican felons to vote, but he is essentially saying he is fine with dark money influencing the actions of our representatives instead of their Republican constituents. And yes to those who argue that you can still do early voting, let us not forget that some states not only made voting harder by closing polling booths which by majority is places where minorities are dominant, but there are efforts to shrink the early voting periods. And considering how there are some instances of some 2018 ballots never sent to the voting booths. Let’s just consider this bill a form of insurance just in case we have a problem like this happen again. On the plus side, those who do not or cannot vote at least have a day off. Who would say no to that. There is a good chance that this legislation will die a gruesome death as Mitch and the army of lobbyists will fight with everything they have to kill this bill. Everyone who can should contact their senators and tell them to bring this bill to a vote. Even if Mitch insist on not calling for a vote, brining this to national news will force him to cave just like he did with the Obamacrats. And if he still refuse, I am sure the people of Kentucky after seeing the provisions of the bill will finally have enough of the Republican turtle and vote him out. Personally I find it funny Mitch is calling this a power grab while admitting that this legislation will bring in more Democratic voters. Does Mitch really have no faith in his Republican voters that he will shoot himself in the foot by making it harder for his constituents to vote for the party he is currently leading.

More people voting is bad for republicans..... hm....... maybe you should change your policy positions? Maybe be pro family not only in words but in action by supporting living wages, low cost daycare, affordable housing etc.? Or continue to serve the interests of multinational corporations at the behest of globalist elites

A federal holiday will only impact federal workers and banks, not blue color workers.

I like the idea of making that day Veterans Day, does not add another holiday, and a lot of federal employees are Vets, let's see Mitch piss and moan about that. And change it to a Friday or Monday, and allow voting for the whole 3 day's.

Everything being equal, Republicans can't win an election. So, kick in a healthy dose of voter suppression and surprise, look what happens.
