Bernie Sanders proposes big hike in estate taxes

Bernie Sanders has proposed to expand the estate tax on wealthy Americans, including a rate of up to 77 per cent on the value of estates above $1 billion. Sanders said his plan would apply to the wealthiest 0.2 per cent of Americans. The plan estimates, if enacted, the legislation would raise up to $2.2 trillion in estate taxes from the families of all 588 billionaires in the US.

Punish the most productive and hardworking citizens by assuming their wealth is immoral and see them flee and you run out of money.

Congress needs to abolish the estate tax all together. You already pay taxes when you acquire the estate in question, then you are taxed on it the entire time you hold the estate, and then you're taxed a third time when you wish to transfer that estate to a relative. Taxing something that has already been taxed multiple times is asinine and overkill.
