Maybe the title of this would be "US, UK challenge. . ." since that is quite clearly not the bow of a US carrier.

It is not a good idea to send a very expensive Carrier into the anti-ship missile range of China.

Good. The UK should also have a trident nuclear submarine ready to strike.

The bullshit "island" (it's just a platform built on shallow waters, 20 to 30 meters deep) the Chinese claimed (Mischief Reef), is all the way to the Philippines' coast; it's about 150 miles away from the Philippines, and 700 miles away from China. When people joke that China will claim the Moon as an extension of the South China Sea, they're not too far off.

Soooo one typhoon and the Chinese lose their island?

If you look at the pictures, the reef is shaped like a ring, with a narrow path going out. The shallow ring breaks the waves, so ships inside it are protected from storms. It is a strategic place to station military ships, platform or not.

A dozen carpet bombings outta fix that.
