Senate passes anti-lynching bill, sending it to House

The Senate on Thursday passed a legislation to make lynching a federal crime. The bill was introduced by Sens. Kamala Harris, Cory Booker and Tim Scott. The measure will now go to the House. The bill previously passed the Senate in December, but it did not clear the then-GOP controlled House before the end of the 115th Congress.

"With this bill, we finally have the chance to speak the truth about our past" says Harris. Wait, finally? You have NEVER complained about your past? Noone heard of it till just now? Also, how is it considered "shameful" that no one has passed an anti-lynching bill before, when anything that you do during a lynching is already completely against the law?! Are Harris and Booker going to prove how responsible the are by passing a bill based on the Jesse Smollet case, which is still under investigation, a testimony containing more holes than a cheese grater?

Murder is already illegal. The federal government should not have the power to pass criminal laws unless they fall into a very narrow interpretation of regulating interstate trade.

Isn't that already illegal to do in general? Like you do that and your gonna be convicted and your gonna go to prison. Why does this have to be discussed or made into a federal crime?
