Chad’s President Idriss Deby killed in battle with rebels

Chad’s President Idriss Deby has died in clashes with rebels in the north of the country. Deby had gone to the front line to visit troops battling rebels based across the border in Libya. This comes as provisional results on Monday from the election on 11 April projected Deby would win a sixth term in office. He was one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders, having come to power in 1990.
