Nicaraguan farmer leader who protested Ortega gets 216-year prison sentence

A farm leader who led protests last year against President Daniel Ortega was sentenced on Monday to 216 years in prison. Medardo Mairena was convicted last December of terrorism, murder and organized crime. More than 320 people died in the protests last year against Ortega. Despite the exaggerated sentence, the constitution establishes that no person can spend more than 30 years in prison.
