Colorado: Two probes launched to look into rough arrest of woman with dementia

A team of outside law enforcement agencies and city officials from Denver are reportedly conducting separate probes into the forceful arrest of 73-year-old Karen Garner. Garner, a resident of Colorado, has dementia and had left a store without paying for about $14 of items last year. She had filed a federal lawsuit last week challenging her arrest, which was captured on police body camera video.

This seems to be where police training and common sense falls down. No officer should need to forcefully manhandle a frail, 73 year old woman. Surely a quiet chat, some empathy when it became clear she had some degree of dementia, would have resolved everything. Fortunately, we do read about such police officers every now and again.
